West Brom boss Irvine insists Berahino not for sale

West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Irvine insists Saido Berahino is not for sale.

The striker is being linked with a January move to Tottenham.

"I don't think we are anywhere near that at this particular moment," Irvine told the Birmingham Mail.

"I think somebody has written a story because he was a handful against Tottenham and if he is a handful against Man United they will probably write that story as well. Before you know it, it will be that there is a bid about to come in.

"If I was working at any of the top Premier League clubs I would probably be saying 'We better have a look and see what this young lad is doing at West Brom because he seems to be scoring a load of goals'.

"It certainly doesn't mean we need to sell."

Certainly not at the price quoted.

"I would be absolutely astonished if anyone could sign Saido from us for £15m.

"You look at some of the fees going around in the transfer market that's just been, everybody seems to start at £7m.

"Ross McCormack went for £11m Championship to Championship. What's the right figure I have absolutely no idea and I wouldn't make the decision as far as that was concerned.

"But £15m doesn't sound like a lot of money for a talented, young English player with great potential who is playing really, really well in the Premier League and who is scoring goals. It would have to be higher than that."
