West Brom boss Irvine drawing inspiration from Hodgson

Alan Irvine hopes to match the success of Roy Hodgson at West Bromwich Albion.

Like four of Albion's last five managers, Irvine will experience his first Premier League game as Albion boss.

Tony Mowbray, Roberto Di Matteo, Steve Clarke and Pepe Mel all tasted life in England's top league as No.1 with the Baggies. The only exception was Roy Hodgson.

Irvine speaks highly of Hodgson and is hoping his approach will help bring similar joy.

"A lot of people go back to Roy being here," he told the Birmingham Mail.

"Roy is a top coach and a very structured and organised coach - very clear in terms of what he is looking for from his players in the team.

"I think people here are keen to be back to that - if we can give the players clear messages. Obviously they have to be allowed the freedom to express themselves within the structure.

"You hope when they do that they make the best decisions."
