West Brom boss impressed by influence of ex-Man Utd midfielder Fletcher

West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis has spoken highly of the positive impact made by Darren Fletcher.

The 31-year old joined the Baggies on a free transfer from Manchester United in January and was immediately made captain by Pulis.

He has brought with him to The Hawthorns qualities that are few and far between in modern football and Pulis admits it is a nice injection of optimism as the West Midlands side looks to continue climbing clear of the relegation zone.

"On and off the pitch he's been very good," Pulis said.

"Like I said it wasn't just a signing for the 90 minutes on a Saturday, it was a signing to bring someone into the football club who has got good standards and been brought up the right way.

"He's a winner and you need a few of them in your dressing room. Ask any manager up and down the country it's lovely to have people like that around you."
