West Bromwich Albion boss Steve Clarke admits he could've been Norwich City counterpart Chris Hughton's No2.
Hughton contacted Clarke two years ago to see if he would become his assistant while he was boss at Newcastle.
Hughton was axed just weeks later and by the following month West Brom manager Clarke had landed the role of sidekick to Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool.
The Baggies chief declared: "Back when Chris was at Newcastle we had a little chat about maybe me going up there to join him.
"At the time I was out of the game and I really appreciated the fact he took the time to call me.
"They got rid of him soon after and maybe he did not deserve to lose that job."
