West Brom boss Clarke feels for under-fire Chelsea manager Benitez

West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Clarke has empathised with Chelsea counterpart Rafael Benitez following his rant on Wednesday night.

The Spaniard confirmed he would not be in the role next season after receiving continued abuse and negativity from Blues supporters but he has received plenty of support from fellow managers including Clarke whose Baggies head to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

"I didn't see a lot wrong in what he said," said Clarke.

"The script, as it was written down, was okay.

"I think by and large we are all interim. Someone is going to come and take your position at some stage.

"Only Sir Alex (Ferguson) and maybe Arsene Wenger can say they are in it for the long haul, but eventually someone is going to take your job so we are all temporary managers.

"We go in as a head coach or a manager and we go in for whatever period of time it is to try to help the club to move forward.

"Rafael Benitez was put in as manager to take the club to the end of the season and I'm sure that will happen."
