Wellington Phoenix midfielder Daniel has been ruled out of Thursday's New Year's Eve clash against the Central Coast Mariners in Gosford.

The Brazilian-born New Zealander has aggravated a groin strain at training during the week and will be forced out of the vital match which could put the Phoenix just a point out of the top six if they can record a victory.

Daniel will be replaced by former Mariners midfielder Adrian Caceres in the starting line-up as defender Manny Muscat may make a return from a three-match suspension.
