Wellington Phoenix loanee Gameiro unsure about Fulham future

Corey Gameiro admits he is none the wiser as to what will happen regarding his future at Fulham.

The 20-year old Australian striker, who is currently on loan with Wellington Phoenix, is hoping to put in some quality performances at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Turkey in June and July to assure he has prospects at the top level, even if Fulham decide to let him go come seasons end.

"I haven't re-signed with Fulham yet," Gameiro said. "We haven't had any discussions, so I don't know what is going to happen there.

"I'm treating the youth World Cup as a chance to put myself in the best possible position by playing well in front of agents and club representatives from around the world. They all go to this tournament to look at players.

"People have said to me, 'that's a lot of pressure to put on yourself', but I don't look at it that way. I see it as a great opportunity to perform, and I'm excited about it.

"If I got any offers, I'd be able to negotiate straight away because I'd be a free agent.

"I'm just going to go there and play my football for the team, and if a club sees me and decides I'm worth signing, that's great.

"If nothing happens, then that's the way it goes, and I'll probably keep playing in the A-League while I work out what to do in the future."
