Phoenix chief executive Tony Pignata said it would be inappropriate for the A-League team to visit China as scheduled from June 8 to 16 as it grappled with a major humanitarian crisis.
"Unfortunately, given what's happened in China, it's been difficult to put the tour together and we've decided not to travel," Pignata said.
"The Chinese government has suspended the (domestic) division two and division three competitions and has decided only international fixtures will go ahead."
The Phoenix will play a Chinese club side in Wellington on Sunday in a match which will raise money for earthquake relief.
