Watford winner can get Middlesbrough's McDonald back in the goals - Mowbray

Scott McDonald can now kick-on after getting himself back on the scorers list at Middlesbrough.

The Australian international netted his first goal since August when he hit the winner against Watford on Saturday (1-0) and now his manager Tony Mowbray feels it could begin a free-flowing scoring run for the ex-Celtic star just like he produced at the backend of last campaign.

"Let's hope that kick-starts him into a run of goals," Mowbray told the club's official website.

"At the end of last season he hit a purple patch.

"He's the type of lad who can do that, he knows where the back of the net is but he's also the kind who can get frustrated and that's probably been part of the problem.

"When it's been a while since you've scored, you can start snatching at things. Scott sets very high standards for himself and wants to score goals and has built his career off scoring goals.

"For me as a coach, the positive is the hard work he puts in. A lot of strikers stand around the edge of the box and wait for chances to come and take all the glory when they notch one.

"I've kept him going because he works so hard for the team. While he hasn't been scoring he's been running and chasing and trying to hold the ball up and working very hard for the team.

"But I know he can score goals and I'm pretty sure now we'll fairly regularly see his name on the scoresheet."
