Watford striker Deeney receives jail term for nightclub brawl

Watford striker Troy Deeney has been sentenced to 10 months in prison. The 23-year-old was on Monday jailed for his part in a street brawl involving a group of students outside a nightclub, with Deeney caught on CCTV as he kicked one of the victims in the head during a night out, Birmingham Crown Court heard.

Deeney, who pleaded guilty to affray at an earlier hearing, was arrested shortly after the fracas, which left one man with a broken jaw and another requiring 20 stitches to a mouth wound.

A statement on the Champions clubs official website read: "Watford FC wishes to confirm that it is fully aware of sentencing relating to Troy Deeney, passed at Birmingham Crown Court today (Monday June 25 2012).

"Neither the club nor individual officials will be making any comment at this time. The club will issue a further, fuller statement within the next few days."
