Watford captain Troy Deeney has revealed Sir Elton John offered him words of encouragement after the Hornets knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup last month, reports the London Evening Standard.

"He's got my number and he'll give me a call if we've done well," Deeney told the Daily Mail.

"When we beat Arsenal in the quarter-final he gave me a quick call and said, 'Well done, I'm buzzing for you'.

"It's very surreal to have someone of that calibre speaking to me but Watford is massively dear to his heart."

John is a lifelong Watford fan and has previously served as chairman at Vicarage Road, where he had a stand named after him in 2014.
