Watford defender Femenía rues late Brentford winner

Watford defender Kiko Femenía was disappointed after falling to a late Brentford winner following a much-improved second half.

The Bees took the lead before the interval, but Emmanuel Dennis levelled the scoring with a sweet strike into the roof of the net. Despite Watford's efforts that nearly culminated in a winning goal, it would be Pontus Jansson who would secure the points for the Bees.

“It took us too long to enter into the game during the first half," he explained. “We knew they were a very difficult team to play against and we took too long to get into the game.

“After that, we conceded the goal and then managed to draw level, but we couldn't just score that final goal to win the game. The reality is that we conceded again, two goals from set-pieces."

Femenía added: “Everyone knew [at half time] we weren't doing well and we needed more links to play forward. In the second half we tried to do that, we tried to push forward more to attack.

“The reality is that it gives you some bitterness when you lose like this. You never feel good when you concede a goal at the very last second. We played better in the second half, but it's the result that matters in the end and we didn't get the three points.

“Every game is a final now and the next one is Manchester City which is beyond difficult, but we have to get points regardless of the upcoming opponents."
