Watford captain Troy Deeney has revealed he and his teammates were completely taken by surprise when they discovered that they had won promotion to the Premier League.
Deeney scored his 21st goal of the season in the 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday but the Hornets had to wait as top three rivals Norwich City and Middlesbrough were in action later that afternoon.
The Canaries drew 1-1 with Rotherham United while Boro lost 4-3 at Fulham meaning Watford secured a top-two finish which has given them automatic promotion back to England's top flight and prompting some emotions from the club captain.
"Honestly, we were just chilling out," star striker Deeney told Call Collymore on talkSPORT.
"You know how it is at the back of the bus, we were just playing music and some of the lads were playing cards. We weren't really looking at the results, more just the media stuff on TV.
"But then literally as we were pulling in to the training ground all the results came on and you can imagine it all went a bit mental after that.
"It was definitely emotional. I haven't cried since my old man died [his father Paul sadly lost his battle with cancer in 2012] but I was definitely crying today."
