Former Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock would welcome a return to Selhurst Park.
Warnock has been mentioned as a candidate for the football director's post.
"When I retired people asked me what I wanted to do and I've always said there's a job for me helping a club with transfers and getting players in," he told talkSPORT. "I hate that director of football role, but somewhere liaising between the board and manager.
"That, when I listened to Ian Holloway and Steve Parish, is the position that has been lacking when Crystal Palace went up.
"They thought they could do it themselves, but it's impossible, in the end you get so many players thrown at you you're bound to pick players, ordinarily, you wouldn't have brought in. You panic and you end up signing average players."
