Warnock fumes as QPR denied penalty

QPR boss Neil Warnock was less than impressed after a penalty decision went against his side in a goalless draw against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. Lewis McGugan appeared to bring down Tommy Smith in the first half and Warnock said: "It was an absolutely blatant penalty. Tommy was past his man and two players touched him, not just one.

"I thought the referee (Andy D'Urso) had a decent game but that was the big decision. I don't think I've had anything from him since we were playing with lace-up balls.

"I know it was a difficult decision because it's a penalty and a red card but we'll just keep playing the way we are and hope we can score a few more goals and penalty decisions go with us.

"We've come here with two suspensions and a couple injured but we've had a go and tried to play the game the way it should be.

"Their keeper Lee Camp has made some fabulous saves and I think it says everything that Forest kept the ball at the end and were pleased to see the whistle go.

"We've got a couple of home games now and Cardiff is one of them so we'll see how we get on with them."

Forest boss Billy Davies felt his side should have had two penalties for a foul on Robert Earnshaw and a handball offence, but accepted that Rangers should have had one too.

He said: "Both teams had stonewall penalties and we knew the game might be decided by one critical decision. I told the players it would be a 'toss of the coin' match.

"I wasn't happy with the way we played in the first half. We didn't play with enough energy, had too many straight lines to our play and didn't pass it very well.

"But we were much better in the second half and the substitutes we brought on made a great impact for us.

"We began to look a lot more like ourselves and in the end I thought there was only one team that looked like winning the game in the second half. I thought we improved and probably deserved to win the match.

"But Rangers are a strong side with lots of experience and although I expect them and Cardiff to be there or thereabouts at the end of the season because of the quality they both have, I expect others to be involved as well."
