Warburton frustrated as 'moneyball' Brentford get set to move on without him

Brentford manager Mark Warburton has admitted his frustration at the fact he will no longer be manager of the club next season.

The Bees are run by Matthew Benham, who takes a 'Moneyball-like' statistical and analytical approach to his ownership, and Warburton has not seen eye-to-eye with his direction for the club.

Brentford are preparing for the Premier League play-offs this weekend with the first of a two-legged semi-final tie against Middlesbrough first up.

Warburton is well aware he won't be at the helm at Griffin Park whether or not the London club gain promotion to the Premier League and he admits it is a vexing situation.

"I'm going to be angry at certain times, but you have to deal with it," said Warburton to the Daily Mail.

"There are certain things where you either stand up to it or you say no. For me it wouldn't have worked.

"The club wanted to go a certain direction. It's a risk for them, but I'm sure they've put a lot of thought and planning into it. People say I've taken a very professional attitude but you have to respect the fact that someone's put so much money into the football club and put it into this state of health.

"This (Friday's play-off first leg at home to Middlesbrough) is the biggest game in 70 years - there's a reason for that. The investment's been good and the club will move forward. It's just frustrating for us we can't be part of that new structure."
