Holders Liverpool have been dumped out of the FA Youth Cup by Sunderland.

A stunning hat-trick from Martyn Waghorn - who has already made his Premiership debut this season - secured an extraordinary 5-3 win for the Black Cats after the Reds had twice fought back to send the match into extra-time.

Sunderland's success is a huge fillip for the Wearsiders, which have taken big hits over their youth system in recent years when compared with Northeast rivals Middlesbrough and Newcastle United.
