Keisuke Honda says he was serious about joining Manchester United last month.
Currently trialling with Vitesse, Honda sent out 'come and get me' messages to United and AC Milan on social media as he sought a new club.
"Partly joking, partly serious," said Honda about his open applications. "United and Milan are fallen superpowers. I would like to play football there. Now nothing plays in that area."
On Vitesse, Honda adds: "I first have to show my qualities here.
“Of course I do not train with Vitesse for nothing. I thank Leonid (Slutsky, coach) and Mo (Mohammed Allach, technical director of Vitesse) for this opportunity. But I really want to convince them. I have to be in top shape."
