Villa's Barry upset with treatment by O'Neill

Garethy Barry is upset with his treatment by Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill.

The Villa captain has been placed on gardening leave since accusing O'Neill of neglecting his future to work as a Euro 2008 pundit for the BBC.

But a source close to Barry says the 27-year-old feels hard done to by O'Neill's no-nonsense stance following the interview in a national newspaper.

"Gareth is just playing a waiting game like everybody else," he told the Sunday Mercury. "He's fine, there's nothing he can do about it, all that he can do is hope that it is resolved soon. He does feel that the punishment doesn't really fits the crime. If every player who does an unauthorised article was suspended then there wouldn't be too many players at clubs.

"Gareth is obviously concerned about the situation but at the moment he's just training on his own and making sure he's in good shape for the season."
