Villarreal veteran Santi Cazorla has welcomed the appointment of Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

Former Arsenal star Cazorla was among those to send his best wishes to the Spaniard following confirmation of his return to the North London club.

Cazorla, who played alongside his compatriot during his spell with the Gunners, wrote on Instagram: "What good news for this club, my friend you are a great person and a great coach.

"I wish you all the best and I am sure everything will be perfect."

Arteta signed a three-and-a-half-year deal at the Emirates Stadium and will officially start his new role on Sunday, with interim boss Freddie Ljungberg to remain in charge for Saturday's game against Everton.
