Villarreal have been rocked by the retirement of Javier Farinos.
Former Valencia and Inter Milan midfielder Farinos has been forced to retire through niggling injuries aged 35.
Discussing Farinos' retirement, Mateo Musacchio told Villarreal's official website: "It's a story I did not expect and it is a real shame.
"He was a great player and a great person; although he was not the captain because he had little time at the club, he was the benchmark for all of us in the dressing room.
"He was the first that came to practice and the last to leave, a true example of professionalism."
