Tottenham face missing out on Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio.
The London Evening Standard says Tottenham suffered another blow in their pursuit of Musacchio after Villarreal offered him a pay rise to stay.
Spurs were confident of landing the defender for £17million before his former club, River Plate, demanded he be sold for a higher fee because they are entitled to a 30 per cent sell-on clause.
Tottenham were willing to treble Musacchio's current wages of £20,000 a week but look set to miss out on the Argentinian.
