Villa striker Agbonlahor: I would love to play with Rooney

Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor is determined to break into England's squad for the new season.

Fabio Capello vowed to inject new blood into his international party ahead of the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign, naming Agbonlahor as a player who could have a big impact in the coming months.

Agbonlahor told Villa's website: "It was nice to hear - you want to hear that - and it gives you a boost ahead of the new season.

"What I need to do now is show him I deserve it. I want to get off to a good start, have a good season and get back into the squad. I am determined to get back in.

"It was disappointing [to miss out]. But if you ask me and some other of the lads, you have to take a look at yourself and question if you did enough to make it in.

"I want to do more this season and get myself in the squad.

"I have been involved before but missed out ultimately on the party for the finals. It's not easy for the manager, though, because he can only pick 23 players for his final squad. It's only small.

"What I want to do now is get back in amongst it. I'd relish the opportunity to play with Wayne Rooney in future squads, anyone would - look at how good a player he is. But there'll be tough competition."
