Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor is keen to secure a spot in the England national team after manager Fabio Capello recently sang his praises.
The Italian tactician has said that Agbonlahor is one of the stars of the future and now he wants to out those words into practice and play up front with Wayne Rooney in the Three Lions line-up.
"It was nice, you want to hear that. It's given me a boost ahead of the new season," the 23-year old said.
"I would relish the opportunity to play alongside Wayne Rooney in future squads. Anyone would, look how good a player he is.
"What I want to do now is show the manager I deserve it. I'm determined to get back in.
"But I know there's going to be some tough competition - there'll be young players trying to get in among it now.
"It was disappointing to miss out on the World Cup. But me and some of the other lads have to look at ourselves and question whether we did enough to make it in.
"That's why I want to do more this season."
