Brad Friedel has assured Aston Villa fans over his age.

Some supporters have questioned the wisdom of signing a player who is into his 37th year but Friedel is confident Villa will benefit from his experience.

He added: "I think people can see the longevity of goalkeepers when they see who is playing in the Premier League - David James, Edwin van der Sar and myself.

"There are a lot of goalkeepers who have longer careers if they are lucky with injury and they look after themselves.

"It seems like a pretty young squad here at Villa and hopefully I can add some experience."
