Villa midfielder Bannan hoping to be fit for Spain

Barry Bannan is hoping he is fit for Scotland's final Euro2012 qualifying match against Spain tomorrow.

The Aston Villa midfielder sustained a deep gash near his Achilles in the 1-0 win over Liechtenstein on Saturday and was forced to wear trainers with his suit after the match. He admits the problem is not ideal but has his fingers crossed that he will get up for the trip to Alicante.

"When I woke up on Sunday the Achilles was stiff and I couldn't get my shoes on, that's why I've travelled in my trainers," he said.

"I've had the gash glued and that tightens it up. But I'm not going to let something like this rule me out.

"This is a massive game and one we all want to be involved in.

"Hopefully I'll get through it OK as it' s more awkward than anything. I was able to play on and my feeling is I can do that again."

The Scots, second in Group I, take on the Spaniards in Alicante needing a victory to move into the play-off round of qualifying or hope that Lithuania beat the Czech Republic in Kaunas.
