Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert was disappointed to miss Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert on deadline day.
Lambert admitted it was a blow, having watched his team score just 11 league goals this season, nine fewer than any other top-flight side.
"It's disappointing, but that's football," Lambert said. "It's like anything, you're never quite sure until somebody actually walks in your door and gets signed.
"I don't know how far it got or anything like that. It's probably unfair for me to comment on that.
"We tried one or two things to try and make it happen. It's gone so we'll go on with what we've got and try to win the game on Saturday."
