Aston Villa fans are ready to forgive Gareth Barry after he was booed during a friendly this week.
Dave Woodhall, editor of Heroes and Villains fanzine, told The Sun: "It looked as if most fans got it out of their system in the first half and Gareth was starting to turn some of them around with his performance.
Peter Warrilow, Supporters Trust chairman, added: "The reaction was understandable.
"But I don't think deep down there is great animosity towards Gareth.
"The general feeling is this is the club that made him and he ought to stand by it.
"If there was a meeting of minds which ended with a bit of contrition and an apology that was acceptable to Martin O'Neill, I think the majority of fans would be happy to have him back on board.
"None are blind to his obvious talents and we all know it would be a better Villa side with Gareth in the team.
"So if there was a coming together of both parties, even at this late stage, I'd be delighted if Gareth stayed and I'm sure I speak for a lot of Villa fans in saying that."
