Villa-bound Holman crowned Australian Player of the Year

Departing AZ Alkmaar star Brett Holman has been named the Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) Player of the Year for the 2011/12 season.

The 28-year old attacking midfielder, who is set to join Aston Villa, polled 270 votes with Shimizu S-Pulse striker Alex Brosque second (176 votes) and Reading goalkeeper Adam Federici third (154 votes) to clinch PFA's highest honour which was voted on by PFA members.

Holman also scooped the Football Media Association (FMA) International Player of the Year ahead of nominees Brosque, Josh Kennedy, Lucas Neill and Luke Wilkshire.
