Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood denies Blackburn Rovers won the league title in 1995 thanks to the chequebook.

Sherwood insists the triumph was not due to heavy spending.

"I resent people who say that's what happened at Blackburn because we developed. I didn't go there as a title winning captain from Norwich.

"It came with the help of Kenny Dalglish, Ray Hartford, the coaching staff there and the players who came along. It's not all about buying world class stars, it's also making people better."
