Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert says it was the right time for Barry Bannan to move on.

Bannan will face his old club with Crystal Palace today.

"The thing with Barry is he played a lot of games," said Lambert.

"It's not like he never played. We felt we had to keep changing.

"He found something in Palace. He's only a young guy. He has his whole career in front of him."
