Vidmar appointed coach of Olyroos

Adelaide United coach Aurelio Vidmar has been appointed the new coach of the Australian Olympic team and assistant for the Socceroos.

As first reported on tribalfootball.com last night, Vidmar will replace Graham Arnold after the World Cup as he takes up the head coaching role at the Central Coast Mariners and shows Football Federation Australia rates Vidmar highly.

"Aurelio is a great young coach and a position like this is a fantastic stepping stone for him and it will give him the opportunity to aspire to the head coaching role down the track," FFA CEO Ben Buckley said.

"He has shown with his excellent work with Adelaide United that he can manage a team on the international stage and get results."

Vidmar will be handed the reins to lead the Olyroos into the 2012 Olympic Games in London and take over as assistant coach of the national senior team under Pim Verbeek's replacement who will be unveiled some time after the World Cup.
