Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen branded themselves "stupid" after slipping to defeat at Crystal Palace.

This was a poor performance from a side which had beaten leaders Chelsea 5-3 in their last league match.

Vertonghen said: "Decisions can be lucky or unlucky. We were leading and we had to finish it off.

"There is no point winning against Chelsea and then losing here. We have been very stupid to drop these points.

"Once again we have failed to jump up to fourth place. We have to go for fourth place - but we are still playing in three other competitions. Maybe fourth place and a trophy?"
