VVV Venlo chairman Hai Berden has revealed that Maya Yoshida was a target for Aston Villa recently.
The 23-year old Japanese defender has been attracting attention this summer and Berden suggests he could be in the market for a big move after he was almost pursued heavily by Villa.
"Maya already attracted the interest of Aston Villa, but finally the transfer of Ron Vlaar went through," Berden told De Telegraaf.
"For VVV and Maya this is the perfect moment for him to make the step to a bigger club."
