Former Tottenham boss Terry Venables says Kenny Dalglish should hand Andy Carroll a start for Liverpool against Manchester United tomorrow. He wrote in his column for The Sun: "Having got his new signing back from injury, he does not want him out of action for another long spell.
"And after two months on the sidelines and a megabucks move, it is probably not the ideal scenario for any player to make their first appearance against their new club's bitterest rivals in one of the most ferociously contested matches of the season - broadcast live to billions around the world.
"So I can appreciate why Kenny might be reluctant to throw him in at the deep end.
"Yet if Carroll is anything near fit, and if the docs say there is no danger of him aggravating his old injury, I would play him.
"And I don't mean as a sub. I would chuck him in from the start.
"It might be considered a baptism of fire against a United side top of the table and smarting from a controversial defeat at Chelsea on Tuesday.
"But with Rio Ferdinand still injured and Nemanja Vidic suspended after his red card at Stamford Bridge, can you think of a better time for the 6ft 3in powerhouse to make his debut in Liverpool's attack? No, me neither."
