Varney leaves Portsmouth for Leeds move

League OnePortsmouth striker Luke Varney has joined Championship side Leeds United on a two-year deal. On Tuesday Pompey announced they had until 10 August to get their remaining contracted players to take pay cuts or leave the club.

"We thank Luke for his contribution here," Pompey boss Michael Appleton told his club's official website.

"Leeds are a great club and we wish him all the best for the future.

"It was unfortunate that he missed a chunk of last season because of injury, but he's a good player who still has a lot to offer."
