Vardy success is no fluke, he works as hard as anyone in the world - Leicester keeper Schmeichel

Kasper Schmeichel insists Jamie Vardy's recent success with Leicester City has been a long time coming.

The 28-year-old striker leads the Premier League with 15 goals which has guided the Foxes to top spot on the table after 17 matches.

Vardy's rise form non-league footballer to top flight star has been well-documented in recent times and Leicester goalkeeper Schmeichel has re-iterated the fact that his teammate has thoroughly earned his new-found status as England's top scorer.

"It's completely deserved," Schmeichel said. "I've seen him now for the last three-and-a-half years working really, really hard every single day.

"In games, he works as hard as anybody in the Premier League or probably in the world.

"He sets our team off and sets the tone. It's no fluke the run he's been on. You get what you deserve and what you work for and he works harder than anybody you could imagine."
