Vancouver Whitecaps' Long Tan impressing teammates and coach

Major League Soccer's first-ever Chinese-born player, Long Tan, is impressing teammates and management with his recent performances.

The 23-year old forward came off the bench to set up Shea Salinas' winner in the 1-0 victory over Houston Dynamo on the weekend and the recipient off that neat piece of play was full of praise for his mate.

"Long Tan has been awesome, especially the last month," said Salinas.

"He has been on fire, scoring goals in reserve games, scoring goals in practice and creating goals. So it's nice the coaches gave him a chance and he definitely performed well."

And Whitecaps head coach Tom Soehn was also pleased with his showing following some good form at training and reserve matches.

"We use training and reserve games as a gauge to see who deserves time and he's done a really good job of impacting the reserve games," he said.

"In training, he has done a good job of listening to what we're trying to get through to him and I think it showed on the field."
