Vancouver Whitecaps draftee Salgado not getting carried away

The 2011 MLS SuperDraft number one selection, Omar Salgado, says he is not getting carried away with all the expectations that come with the tag.

There are already rumours flying around linking the 17-year old with English Premier League giants Arsenal but he is not even thinking about anything further than his debut MLs season with expansion franchise Vancouver Whitecaps.

"You just keep doing your thing," he told The Province.

"You don't even think about that unless there's a real offer that's concrete. You keep trying in Vancouver until the last moment you're at the club."

English website MirrorFootball suggested that the Gunners 'are also keeping tabs on the 'new Chicharito' -Omar Salgado, a 17-year-old striker with Vancouver Whitecaps' but from his own comments and those from 'Caps coach Teitur Thordarson, it seems as though he is not taking any of that into account.

"I think he was something special to watch here," said Thordarson. "Omar has both feet on the ground. He knows that he has to work very hard to have success. But he has all the tools.

"The bigger clubs, when they see talents like this, they don't wait too long. But hopefully he'll be able to give us some years with good quality."
