van Persie suggests perhaps Arsenal aren't quite good enough

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has indicated that the North London club may not be good enough to win trophies. The Gunners have not stored anything in the silverware cabinet since the 2005 FA Cup and the Dutchman feels that the final hurdle is where the club continues to fall over.

Arsenal have let their stranglehold on this season slip away in recent weeks, losing the Carling Cup to Birmingham City before dropping out of the Champions League in dramatic fashion to Barcelona. They have also drawn their past two league matches with lowly opponents to allow Manchester United to go five points clear on top of the table.

van Persie says that this is often the case for the North Londoners but is confident they can bounce back from this bad patch.

"We always do our best at Arsenal and always want to win," van Persie said.

"On a number of occasions we have been very close but, at the last moment, it's often not good enough. That's the reality.

"It's very frustrating when you lose, especially as a team when we're so close. But we have to look forward and now it's up to us to change all that.

"I firmly believe in the team, Arsenal and myself and I'm positive we will win prizes."
