Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal isn't surprised by the form of Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen.

The Dane built his reputation with van Gaal's former club Ajax but many wrote off as too lightweight for the English game.

"That is rubbish, always rubbish," van Gaal said emphatically. "Because when you have high standards you can play in the Premier League. He is very good on the ball.

"It's not a problem that he is not so tall or physical. You see Juan Mata playing for us against Newcastle. He made two assists."
