Louis van Gaal has set Manchester United a deadline to name him a manager. The Daily Star says the Holland coach remains in pole position to take over at Old Trafford following the sacking of David Moyes.
He has held talks with United chief executive Ed Woodward and agreed provisional terms on a deal worth around £7m-a-season.
But there have been growing calls for caretaker-boss Ryan Giggs to be handed the job on a full-time basis, while United bosses have been weighing-up a possible move for Pep Guardiola.
A Van Gaal source said: "He knows he is in a strong position but realises the longer the matter takes to get resolved, the more doubt will emerge.
"Other names have been mentioned and he knows he isn't the only person under consideration.
"But he can't wait for too long. He has a World Cup to prepare for and doesn't want this situation affecting his plans for Brazil.
"It has been made clear to United that the middle of next week needs to be the deadline.
"If United want him, they know where he is and must make a positive decision."
