Louis van Gaal has told Manchester United to bid for AS Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman.
The People says the Roma midfielder, 24, was on the radar of Van Gaal's predecessor David Moyes until he suffered a knee injury in March.
Van Gaal believes that United need a big physical presence in midfield and Strootman has been tagged as 'the Dutch Roy Keane'.
The Holland coach is expected to be named new United manager in the coming days.
