Van Gaal declares Man Utd will target FA Cup this season

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has set them a target of winning the FA Cup this season. United have won the cup a record 11 times, the last success coming when they beat Millwall in the 2004 final in Cardiff.

"The league is our priority, of course, but the draw for the third round will be made after this coming weekend's matches," Van Gaal said. "I know what the FA Cup means to this club, our players and to our fans; its place in the history of Manchester United is well known.

"So, it is hard to believe that long-serving players like Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and Jonny Evans have never won this cup.

"It is a medal I know they are desperate to get their hands on. This is a very important competition and probably the most famous domestic cup in the world."
