Former Holland striker René van der Gijp has urged Ajax to ignore Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen.

Vertonghen is off contract in June and Ajax coach Erik ten Hag says the Belgian would be welcome back at his old club.

But Van der Gijp warns: "That really is no longer possible. He runs 100 metres in three minutes.

"I am not saying that it is no longer possible at Ajax, but at Tottenham Hotspur they think it is absolutely impossible now.

"You shouldn't do that, dude. You have Daley Blind and you have bought a few, right? You no longer have to think about Vertonghen. That often sounds nice, but you shouldn't do this to a boy like that."
