Mark Van Bommel has hailed Nigel de Jong's move to AC Milan.

The former Manchester City midfielder replaces Van Bommel, who signed for PSV Eindhoven over the summer.

"He is an excellent buy for Milan and he plays almost the same way as I do," Van Bommel told Milan Channel.

"De Jong is a bit like Rino Gattuso, in that he works both for the forwards and the defenders. He plays for the team.

"He was their best signing of the summer. I think he will quickly settle in to Serie A, as all Dutch players tend to do.

"He's talented tactically and, although his technique isn't perhaps exceptional, it is effective."
