USA national teammates Jozy Altidore and Oguchi Onyewu recently exchanged words via Twitter regarding their hometown MLS clubs.

Luckily though, the banter was tongue-in-cheek and ended in a truce after AZ Alkmaar's Altidore urged former club New York Red Bulls to beat Sporting Lisbon defender Onyewu's home outfit DC United.

Altidore wrote: "RBNY must beat DC scum today! #Rivalry," to which Onyewu replied: "not sure how I feel about u bad talking my city like that!! Don't make me come over there and whoop that azz!"

Altidore then backed down from his initial slur: "haha my bad," before Onyewu again replied: "apology accepted! Just don't let it happen again! Hahaha"
