US midfielder Devann Yao impresses in Ipswich trials

US midfielder Devann Yao is trialling with Ipswich Town. Yao played a trial game for a Town XI in Wednesday afternoon's behind-closed-doors friendly against Celtic. He set up the first goal for Colin Healy, and netted the second himself in a 2-2 draw.

Ipswich boss Roy Keane said: "Devann did well. He had lots of energy and can be pleased with his performance.

"He had a hand in both goals, and hopefully we can do something. We will offer him a contract."

Yao, born in New York to an Ivorian father and Italian mother, which qualifies him for an EU passport, was with French side Metz's youth academy for three seasons having joined them at 13.

A year in Italy playing in the reserves with Livorno and Pisa was followed by a short spell in Scotland with St Mirren's youth set-up before he returned to the US, where he has spent time on trial with the New York Red Bulls.
