URU 2 - 1 KOR: Brilliant Suarez sends Uruguay to quarter-finals

Luis Suarez has scored a brilliant double to send Uruguay to the World Cup quarter-finals with a 2-1 win over a brave South Korea outfit.

Round of 16Uruguay: 2 (Luis Suarez 9', 80') South Korea: 1 (Lee Chung-Yong 68')

Venue: Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium - Port Elizabeth Crowd: 30,000 Referee: Wolfgang Stark (GER) Yellow cards:URU - nil KOR - Kim Jung-Woo 38', Cha Du-Ri 69', Cho Yong-Hyung 83'

Neither side showed any sign of backing off in the opening few minutes in the first Round of 16 clash of the 2010 World Cup and it paid off for Uruguay in just the 9th minute when Edinson Cavani played an odd ball wide from the top of the area where Diego Forlan beat his opponent before finding Luis Suarez completely unmarked at the back post and the striker finished with perfection to make it 1-0.

Despite having more possession following the goal, South Korea could not press the Uruguayans when going forward and although they had just as many shots on goal, the South Americans took the one goal lead into the break.

Huh Jung-Moo's men were dominating play in the opening quarter of an hour of the second term as the rain continued to soak the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium but it was not amounting to much as Uruguay edged ever closer to the next round of the competition.

South Korea were attempting to create with searching balls and positive runs as they strived for an equaliser and it came in the 68th minute when Lee Chung-Yong headed home after a set-piece from Ki Sung-Yeung which was only partially cleared by the Uruguayan defence which was the first goal they had conceded all tournament.

The Asian nation had a scent of victory and pushed hard for it but it went against them in the 80th minute when Suarez netted his second with a bending and dipping shot that saw the ball curl around Jung Sung-Ryong to make it 2-1.

Uruguay were able to hold off any last-gasp efforts from the South Koreans and book a final eight match-up with the Winner of the USA v Ghana match.
