UNSOLVED TRANSFERS: Will Stones leave Everton for Chelsea? Is Man Utd keeper De Gea set for Real Madrid?

The summer transfer window is always intriguing and this year it is no different with a number of potential deals still up in the air.

With the transfer window drawing to a close, we've analysed six of the Premier League's biggest unsolved transfer sagas, and predicted where each player will end up by September 2.

TRIBAL TRANSFER SAGAS

John Stones

The young Everton defender has been the subject of an almighty transfer tug-of-war this summer, with Roberto Martinez downright refusing to sell one of his prized assets.

The 21-year-old has won many plaudits over the last 18 months for his composed performances in defence, and hasn't appeared to have been weighed down by speculation over his future, with two positive showings so far this campaign.

Everton have already knocked back a bid in the region of £30million, with Martinez quoted as saying: "John Stones is an Everton player. Full stop."

But when Roman Abramovich and Jose Mourinho want someone, they usually get them, and tribalfootball.com thinks this will be ono different.

Prediction: Jose to splash £40m and get his man.

Karim Benzema

What on earth would we do without Karim? Every summer the big Frenchman becomes involved in long, drawn out transfer sagas - usually with Arsenal - that give football journos something to write about.

This summer has been no different, although Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has repeatedly told the media he has not inquired about the Real Madrid striker, and that there is no deal in the works.

Of course, this wouldn't be the first occasion Wenger has downright lied to the media about a possible transfer (think Sol Campbell, Andrei Arshavin, and most recently Mesut Ozil), but this time it appears he might genuinely be telling the truth.

Prediction: Benzema will stay with Los Blancos much to the chagrin of expectant Gunners fans.

Mario Balotelli

Having been linked with virtually every Italian club at some point during the summer, with 10 days left of the window Super Mario is still no closer to a transfer than he was at the end of last season.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has already told Balotelli, as well as Jose Enrique and Fabio Borini, they are not a part of first team plans this season. Watford and Lazio have emerged as a potential suitors in recent days.

Prediction:Brendan Rodgers will do anything to get Mario off his hands. An 11:59pm deadline day move to Watford for a cut-price fee or season-long loan to Lazio the most likely scenarios.

Charlie Austin

The English striker enjoyed a fine season last year for QPR, and looked gone for all money when they were relegated to the Championship.

A £15m asking price deterred a few clubs with West Ham United appearing the most likely destination after accepting that price. However, the Hammers have sensationally knocked Austin back citing a previously failed medical at Hull City, with the 26-year-old's future now well up in the air.

Bournemouth, Newcastle United, Tottenham, and even Manchester United have been linked with Austin.

Prediction: Probably the hardest one to pick of the lot, given how many clubs are involved. We think Newcastle will be Austin's final destination, given the Magpies' lack of genuine attacking options.

David De Gea

Will he? Won't he?

Surely the most protracted transfer saga of the summer, this one has been raging on since the end of last season.

It has looked for all money like De Gea would be heading back to the Spanish capital to play for Real Madrid, and his absence from United's first few games only reinforced this. But why hasn't it happened yet?

Things are getting very tight in this one, and there has seemingly been no movement in the last week or so, but if United don't sell now, the Spaniard will surely leave on a free next summer.

Prediction: Another deadline day move

Kevin De Bruyne

The Wolfsburg flyer has been linked with a move to Manchester City for much of the summer.

The Bundesliga club has rejected a £47m bid, and are believed to be asking for an astronomical fee in the region of £57m. This would be a huge outlay considering the Sky Blues already purchased Raheem Sterling for £47m this summer, but if any English club was going to pay that amount, it would surely be City.

However, we think Manuel Pellegrini is pretty happy with his squad and their start to the season, and that this one will fizzle out in the next week.

Prediction: De Bruyne to stay in Germany.
